What is DALI-2?
Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) has been the professional lighting control standard since 2001. DALI-2, introduced in IEC 62386 Part 2, extends the original specification with strict interoperability testing requirements — meaning any two DALI-2 certified devices from different manufacturers are guaranteed to work together.
Key Improvements Over DALI-1
The most significant improvements include: standardised device discovery and commissioning, input device support (sensors, switches, and push-buttons as first-class DALI devices), enhanced diagnostic reporting, and mandatory certification testing by an accredited laboratory.
For system integrators and building owners, this means reduced commissioning time, better system diagnostics, and genuine future-proofing.
